Greg's Taxi Review
"This applies to all taxis in Melbourne, Australia.
I was there for a series of medical appointments from 22.02.2015 to 5.03.2015. Instinctively, I thought pre-booking a taxi for each appointment about 12 hours in advance of needing the taxi would be the fastest and most reliable way to get to the appointments. I was wrong.
Sometimes I would receive an SMS (saying that my taxi was approaching) 50 minutes after the booking time, when I had already given up and made my way to the appointment via other means. That was typical.
I found out through experience that pre-booking didn't work. A more reliable method was to call the dispatcher when the taxi was required, which of course comes at the cost of an extra 10 or 15 minutes of standing around. That didn't always work, though.
The worst example was leaving a restaurant lunch a bit early, calling a taxi, and then alternately waiting and calling taxi dispatchers again for the next 90 minutes. I ended up speaking with the doctor at this point and he said that it was not worth coming to the few minutes left of the appointment.
Maybe I've been spoilt with the higher level of taxi service everywhere else that I've ever been in my life."
